David Malone was the very entertaining speaker at the June meeting.  David is employed by a company called “Real Food Works” and as well as showing us how to make a delicious mint pea soup, mackerel pate and apple crumble he entertained us with anecdotes from his “day job”, which is to educate people to eat healthily and to show how this can be done cheaply and easily.  The sole means of cooking in the homes of many of the families he comes into contact with is a microwave so David’s recipes are geared to its use.

It was evident that David totally believes in what he is doing.  He takes great pride in what he does and is truly delighted when the penny drops with someone in his audience and they come back to tell him how their eating habits have changed e.g. by examining the salt content of processed foods.

Heather Lee won first prize for an object beginning with N with her appropriate choice of whole nutmegs.  Alice Green, Rosa Marshall and Pete Green were our hostesses for the evening.

We came away from the meeting inspired to produce healthy food to consume at the barbeque/Picnic we held the following evening to Celebrate “Family Week”.  This was a lovely evening.  Rosemary and Michael Gibbs kindly allowed us to use the grounds of “The Bogie”.  Everyone present from the youngest baby to those who have given up counting the years had a smashing time.
