Members thoroughly enjoyed the activities they opted for. The two domino drives were well attended and we were particularly proud that Winnie Banks was the joint winner of the Brizlee drive. We were royally entertained and fed at Belford’s birthday party and were thrilled when our donation to the Pledge Auction made £75. [we are a little concerned what they will expect at that price]
Members were informed that the theme for the next calendar is Stately Homes of Northumberland. Any suitable photographs or slides are welcome. We were also very pleased to learn that our Group had forwarded over a hundred vests to the charity.
We then listened to a very interesting talk on the history of chocolate by Julie from the chocolate shop in Alnwick. The best bit of the evening was yet to come as she then produced samples. We were instructed about the correct way to taste chocolate and given the opportunity to put our tastebuds to the test. We were given three samples of milk and three of plain chocolate and we had to say which we thought was the most expensive. The majority of us found that we do not have very sophisticated palettes.
Nancy Grey won the competition. Vivienne Lowerson was second and Winnie Banks third.
