Educational Visit to Seaton Delaval Hall; May 2011

Nineteen members travelled by coach to Seaton Delaval Hall for the 2011 Educational Visit. The hall was built between 1719 and 1732. It was designed by Sir John Vanbrugh for Admiral George Delaval and is recognised as an architectural masterpiece. The hall has survived fires, military occupation and potential ruin, but has been restored by the National Trust and now provides space for arts, heritage and the community. Members especially enjoyed exploring the grand central hall, cellars, stables and gardens.
On the return journey we stopped at the Widdrington Arms and enjoyed an excellent meal served by very pleasant staff.  It was a happy, replete and contented group who made their way home in the evening.
 Business conducted during the visit:
The main focus of business was the voting for the resolutions, the results of which were sent to Joan Littler, the group delegate, to be forwarded to the national AGM in Liverpool.
Members were reminded of the County Day competitions to be held on Saturday 29th of October at Wooler, and the information booklet was passed around.
Leaflets on the 80th Birthday Banner were given to members who had ordered them.
Members were reminded that orders and payment for calendars and diaries would be taken at the June meeting.
There were no birthdays in May, nor were there any competitions or raffle.
