Report of Meeting held in October 2011
Craster W.I. was on its best behaviour during the
October meeting as our speaker was WPC Roxy Bird. Roxy has an innate
air of authority and an engaging manner that enabled her to deliver a
most interesting and wide-ranging talk. She covered many aspects of
modern policing and gave us tips on how to keep ourselves as well as
our belongings safe in this constantly changing modern era. She covered
topics such as identity theft and the dangers of giving away to much
information over the phone or on the Internet. The highlight of her
talk had to be the moment when she opened her suitcase and let the
members examine samples of illegal drugs. This was definitely an eye
opener for most of us. At the end of her talk Roxy judged Vivienne
Lowerson’s eye-catching display of yellow daffodils in a yellow
watering can to be the winner of the competition for a yellow object.
The activities on offer last month are being well

Members were given the opportunity to join in the
Christmas celebration that will take place on Thursday 15th December at
Hexham abbey. Peggy Wood is organising coach.
Invitations have been received from Howick and Bamburgh.
Members were reminded that the Howick invite coincided with the trip to
see Sister Act. This unfortunately limited the number of people who
were able to go. The Bamburgh invitation will be left until nearer the
date.
Four members registered their willingness to attend the
shop local event at Alnmouth. It will be held on the 17th Nov this
year. !0% discount is on offer at the shop and for a meal at the Red
Lion.
Looking forward to next year we were informed that
subscriptions will be £31.50 and that the theme for the 2013 Calendar
is “Statues of Northumberland.”
It was agreed that the Christmas Lunch offered at the
Cottage was good value and a provisional booking would be made for
December 9th. The choice of meal will be left until the November
meeting.
The Christmas Party will take place in its usual format
in December. Pooled supper. Each member may bring 2 guests and presents
from Santa. Marion is to put up a list of members names in the Memorial
Hall.
The Walking Group continues to flourish. Next two trips
will be to the Sugar Sands and Alnmouth.
